HEPA vacuums are essential during lead, old, and asbestos abatement due to their ability to capture at least 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, including lead dust. This high efficiency ensures that even the most microscopic lead particles are effectively contained, preventing their release back into the air and reducing the risk of exposure.

HEPA vacuums are designed with sealed systems to prevent dust leakage around the filter or bag, which is critical for lead dust, asbestos and mold containment. They are also certified for lead dust cleanup by regulatory bodies or industry standards, such as the EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) program.

Using a HEPA vacuum during these abatement processes not only protects workers but also ensures compliance with safety regulations and environmental protection standards.

HEPA vacuuming is essential during lead, mold, and asbestos abatement due to the following reasons:

  • Capturing Fine Particles: HEPA filters trap 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, which are the most dangerous and often missed by standard vacuums.

  • Preventing Contamination: HEPA vacuums prevent the inhalation of harmful particles by exhausting them back into the air, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

Enhancing Air Quality: HEPA vacuuming services improve indoor air quality by removing allergens, mold spores, and fine dust particles, which can be two to five times higher indoors than outdoors.

  • Compliance with Regulations: HEPA vacuums are required by the EPA for lead, silica, and mold containment, ensuring that hazardous materials are safely managed and not released back into the environment.

  • By using HEPA vacuums, professionals can effectively manage and mitigate the risks associated with lead, mold, and asbestos, ensuring a safer working environment and compliance with health and safety standards.

Comply with EPA Regulations – safely collect lead dust while keeping your facility and employees safe.

Remember RRP Regulations: For carpeted work areas, the vacuum must be equipped with a carpet beater bar floor nozzle. A beater bar connects to the vacuum’s hose and is equipped with a rotating brush that spins while the vacuum is in use. This movement agitates the carpet and loosens any lead dust that might be stuck in carpet fibers.

OSHA’s new Silica Rule mandates a dust collection system with a filter cleaning mechanism and which is able to capture 99% of the dust. Furthermore, a HEPA rated vacuum (99.97% efficiency at capturing particles greater than .3 microns) is required for dry cleanup work.
